Lion and Safari Park | What to do in Johannesburg (Part 2/5)

Lion and Safari Park | What to do in Johannesburg (Part 2/5)

Lion Park gets you as close to a safari as you can get, without the feel of being at a zoo. The Park is great for a time pressed traveller who wants a quick sense of what South Africa has to offer.

I arrived at Johannesburg in the morning, dropped my bags at the hotel and took a cab straight to the Park. The next day was a work day, hence I had only Sunday to explore. My sister had visited the Park some months before I did and she went on and on about the place, so I thought why not!.

It was quite a drive from Raddison Blu, Rivonia Road where I was lodged. The views were spectacular as we drove by. It was all country homes and farms on both sides of the road. After about 35 mins, we arrived at the Park. Did I mention how lively and helpful the driver was?! Yes, he was. I suspected his kindness was linked to how much he had charged me. In all, it was a win-win. :)

On arriving at the Park, he sorted out the tickets which was about 50 rand or so. The crowd was alarming.......so we had to take turns to get on the ride as there wasn't sufficient overland trucks for the amount of people available. Eventually, it was my turn and I was unbelievably excited to finally go on a Safari through the wild and vast plains of  Africa. The tour guide shared safety tips and wildlife cautions before we proceeded.

I got to see lions, ostriches, springboks, zebras, giraffes, hyenas, wild dogs, cheetahs and more.

After the Safari, I went to the lion cubs cage to cuddle. I was spent after over three hours of touring the Park and so I called it a day. Between, I was hoping the giraffes would come close enough for a kiss but that never happened.

The rest of the story below.

Final words on what to do in Jahannesburg

I thoroughly enjoyed the trip and the drive through the Safari park. It was beautiful to see wild animals in a wide enclosure. My tour was worthwhile.

I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to relax and enjoy wildlife.
