A weekend road trip to the grandeurs of Ekiti State
All you need is a smart & highly motivated driver and a well maintained car with full tank for a long road trip. TAB
This was one of those 'what can I do this weekend?' except reading and working. Oh yes! I remembered that of all the South West States, I was yet to visit Ekiti. Then I recalled all the interesting stories my Dad had told me of therapeutic nature of Ikogosi Warm Spring, which happens to be in Ekiti State.
Ikogosi warm spring is what you will call 'Gift of Nature'. It was definitely an unreal moment to witness the confluence of the cold spring and the warm spring. Research says that the warm spring has a temperature of about 70C at the source and 37C at the confluence. Wonders of God. I also learnt that a lion once mauled a care taker or visitor (can't remember which now) to death and subsequently, the resort stopped housing wild animals. I began to research on all that the State had to offer in terms of culture, history and attractions.
Then, I stumbled on Naijatreks (someone I call the pioneer of the modern tourism industry in Nigeria) who detailed his trip to another beautiful location in Ekiti called Arinta waterfalls. Gosh! his description made me fall in love with the place and I knew I had to visit the waterfall. Arinta Waterfalls is only 15-25mins from the Ikogosi Resort, tucked away by Mother Nature in Ipole Iloro. I was welcomed by an elderly man who informed me that I had to pay N500 as entrance fee. He was kind to educate and lead me to the place. After hiking for about 15mins, I saw the crystal clear waterfall standing graciously in front of me. Gosh! I was so excited. I was experiencing my 10th of the 20+ waterfalls in Nigeria. By now, you know I made the trip to Ekiti. :)
Well, with two attractions to visit, a trip to Ekiti state was a low hanging fruit; consequently, all roads led straight out of Lagos to Ekiti, where I could have a feel of the mysterious work of nature.
For now, pardon the quality of my pictures, I never knew a time will come when I will share my private trips and life with the world! :)
Besides the chalets and swimming pool which is a stone throw from the confluence, there's not much at Ikogosi Resort. Like I earlier mentioned, Ikogosi Warm Springs resort and Arinta Waterfalls are quite close to each other, so I would recommend you visit both to maximise your visit to Ekiti State.
Please avoid night crawling or late night trips. There is hardly any street light and so the road at night is a complete horror. One pointer for people in power to fix.
If you ever consider staying at Ikogosi Resort, I would recommend that you go with a mosquito repellent to avoid stories that touch. For Arinta waterfalls, out of personal preference, I never go close to a waterfall for strange and unconfirmed reasons, I just strongly believe that there are always snakes in such places.
Thanks for reading. Have you visited Ekiti State? What other destinations are there? Any significant festivals? Please do share with us.
