There's more to Akwa Ibom State
I had heard so much about the beautiful Akwa Ibom women and their irresistible food which attracts the finest of men. Well, during one of the public holidays, I decided to visit the state in hopes that just maybe the anointing of the women which attracts men will fall on me :)
It was a public holiday and Nigerians were graced with two extra days in addition to the weekend. I took advantage of the break and flew to Imo State then drove to Akwa Ibom passing through Abia State.
The roads looked well maintained; the trip was smooth. We passed through Ikot Ekpene (the Raffia city) where I saw Four Points dominating the skylines. I whispered to the hearing of the driver, "we have Four Points here?" and he said yes, "there's a lot of business in the town". That's true. Actually, Ikot Ekpene is town for commerce, trade, and business.
Anyway, we continued our ride till we arrived Uyo. I didn't realise we were at Uyo yet but the cleanliness of the town and the road infrastructure we were passing through caught my attention. I quickly asked the driver, " where are we" and he said, this is the famous Uyo. Yea right! A town this clean and with the right infrastructure has to be famous.
Finally, we got to the first hotel I decided to try out which was Kingdom Hotel. No alcohol allowed, no movies, only local channels and no WiFi. Sounds like the perfect place to pray, relax and shut out all the noise but your girl can't stay in such place for more than a night. It was perfect for one night. Technology, what have you done to us?!
The following day, I checked out from the hotel. The owner was very helpful and hired a car for me with an exceptional smart driver to take me round the town. We visited Ibeno beach, the longest sand beach in West Africa and then drove round Uyo. Gosh! Such a beautiful town. This is the type of transformation we hope for in all the states of Nigeria.
It was time to call it a day and retire to the 10 star hotel, Le Meridien Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort, where I lost my breathe. WOW! Could this be Dubai extension?!. Everything was perfect. Infact, the hotel deserves a separate post (coming soon).
It was an amazing trip visiting Akwa Ibom State (Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, Eket and Ibeno). Enjoy the pictures from my trip!!!!
