Hi there!

I'm Margaret, a female traveller from Nigeria, and welcome to my personal blog , TheAjalaBug.com.

Here, I document my adventures in travel and life experiences generally. Hope you get inspired!

Hotel Moorhouse | Mgallery by Sofitel (Accor hotels)

Hotel Moorhouse | Mgallery by Sofitel (Accor hotels)

I love that moment when I am knackered and my bed brings me all the comfort my body desires; the sleep quality at Moorhouse is incontestably magical. Mgallery by Sofitel is a palatial luxury boutique hotel, located at the business district of Lagos and recommended for a short stay business or private trip.

Moorhouse is one of those hotels I looked forward to experiencing in the past. Mid 2016, a colleague said to me "Hey Meggie, any plans after work"? Let's go somewhere you would absolutely love, for drinks. Truly, I was pleasantly surprised at the interior design; the African artistic inclusion drew me in and I wished I could stay for a night.

Fast forward to 2017 and an opportunity has presented itself for us to explore and showcase Mgallery. Sadly, I wasn't as impressed as I was in 2016, but...... I still loved the fact that the hotel has remained aesthetically pleasing and different from the regular hotels.

The Ikoyi Club 1938 Golf Course is the closest attraction within 1KM to the hotel. Now to the details of the hotel, see below.

THE ENTRANCE

Mgallery by Sofitel is a Western styled, African designed luxury boutique hotel which has 94 rooms. The design of the hotel reminds me of Hotel Lavilla 126 in Dakar.

THE RECEPTION

How I lost my breath again? This is no surprise knowing how much I love art and crafts. Most of the designs at the reception are owned but available for sale by Reuben Ugbine. More than the artistic inclusion are the polite staff. They were so calm that I almost faulted it. LoL.

A good feel of welcome and hospitality. We were served 'Zobo'. Zobo drink is a familiar beverage loved by Nigerians. It is produced from dried roselle or sorrel leaves (Hibiscus Sabdariffa). This was quite sweet. I love it.

THE RESTAURANT (L'AQUARELLE)

I am yet to dine at a more calm restaurant. I was extremely delighted by the cool and calm ambience of the restaurant. It has a beautiful view of the pool. The restaurant serves international cuisine and the food was delicious though the staff were a bit slow at serving. My bread rolls never came till I was done with lunch. Sincerely, I won't fault them much because we arrived a bit late for lunch.

M' BAR

The bar was stylishly designed with natural light in the day and dim lighting at night. We rescued some red wine from a bottle and chatted away with Gabriel Tadros , the GM of Mgallery by Sofitel. For someone like me that loves lodging in hotels and pretty much knows all there is about hospitality, we had a nice and purposeful discussion about the Accor brand.

Deal makers

- Clean and spacious rooms with sizeable bathrooms

- Super duper comfortable beds. The quality of sleep is 100%.

- The A/Cs in the room work perfectly well. Infact, I could not sleep with the A/C and still required the duvet

- Exceptionally professional and courteous staff

- Welcomed with  chilled glass of Zoro or their special for the day

- Parking space available albeit limited

- There is a business centre in the hotel

- Extremely quiet and private environment

- Proper restroom facility for disabled people is available

- There is airport shuttle

- The food was really good with a few options. They also cater to your specific egg style.

- Pool side is really good for relaxing. We had our morning tea at the pool side and I loved it. Sadly, the pool itself was under maintenance, so the view was terrible.

Deal breakers

- The water heater wasn't functional and I had to bath with semi-warm water all through my stay. Infact, there was absence of water pressure.

- Weak WiFi (slow internet)

- The sight of the pool on my visit was a NO

The hotel needs just a little bit more attention to get it back to its past glory. I definitely love the artistic inclusion and I look forward to returning again.
