Here, I document my adventures in travel and life experiences generally. Hope you get inspired!

Museums provide places of relaxation and inspiration and most importantly they are a place of authenticity as we live in a world of reproductions- the objects in museums are real. It’s a way to get away from the overload of digital technology’ - Thomas Campbell

Looking for where to visit this December? Unable to travel outside the shores of Nigeria? Don't beat yourself. It's an excellent skill to know how to sew your cloth according to your bank account. I will be helping with fun and educative places you can visit this season. One of which is the National Gallery of Modern Art.

The gallery is within the National Arts Theatre at Iganmu. Though it could be noisy during stage play rehearsals, it is generally a nice place to relax and get inspired.

On arriving at the gallery, I was welcomed by an elderly man who informed me that I had to pay N200 or so and register my name, which I did. I was then escorted into a steaming hot gallery. Dear Lord, why can't Nigeria be a better place? I said in my heart and I was reassured that everything will be better, soon. Moving on...

The gallery has paintings and sculptures. Some of which I have never seen before. Various kings including the great Ooni of Ife & Oba of Benin, and queens including Queen Amina & Queen Idia are all on display.

Present also were loads of Nigeria’s historical personalities including Uthman dan Fodio, Ajayi Crowder, Hubert Macaulay etc and cultural superstars like Wole Soyinka & Chinua Achebe share the space.

All the heads of states and presidents in Nigeria from inception to date including the famous Murtala Mohammed, Yakubu Gowon, Shehu Shagari are all on display.

That is not all,  there are a number of deities and icons including the olokun and Abiku in the museum. In Summary, everyone that has played a major role in shaping Nigeria (positively or negatively) are all on display.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I truly wish that the gallery can be a little bit more inspiring. The environment is already very clean but the lights can be fully lit up.

For now, thanks for reading till my next adventure.

Margaret.
