Awolowo Museum and Private Beach
"Heroes get remembered but legends never die" - Babe Ruth
On one sunny afternoon, a friend of mine and myself decided it was time to revisit Ibeju-Lekki after arguing about who will drive and whose car to use. Of course, I absolutely love driving, so I offered to drive but in her car (division of labour). I miss you Ephee.
This time we weren't visiting the famous La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort but the historical Awolowo Museum and Private Beach. The museum was established to preserve the legacy of Obafemi Awolowo. Read all about the legend here
All roads led out of Lekki to Ibeju-Lekki. After driving for over 1 hour from Lekki phase 1, we arrived at the musuem. The museum is located off Eleko beach road by the Lekki research & development council.
It is a very well maintained place/facility
There is a knowledgeable tour guide available on the premises
Unlike any other museum I have visited, Awo museum has a beach front
You get to learn a lot of history about the legend that conspired with the then Ghanaian government to overthrow the Federal Government of Nigeria
This was his private prison and his personal effect are still in the house.
The place is serene, Probably because of the beach
There is a beach to relax at after listening to all the history.
More beach-like activities like quad bikes can be introduced
Street signs and directions will be appreciated.
